AMERICAN AIRLINES JOINS LOW CARBON FUELS COALITION

Sacramento, Calif — Today, the Low Carbon Fuels Coalition (LCFC), a technology-neutral trade association with a proven track record of supporting and expanding clean fuel standards, announced its newest member: American Airlines, which is based in Ft. Worth, Texas.

“We are pleased to join the Low Carbon Fuels Coalition, which closely aligns with American’s commitment to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2050,” said Jill Blickstein, Vice President of Sustainability at American Airlines. “We’ve been aggressive in our pursuit to acquire and utilize SAF, a cornerstone of our strategy to decarbonize air travel, but the marketplace requires much more innovation and investment to reach the scale we need. By joining with our Coalition partners, we believe American – and the aviation industry as a whole – can move closer to reaching destination net-zero.”

As part of its commitment to clean transportation, American Airlines recently finalized an agreement with Gevo to purchase 500 million gallons of SAF, the largest SAF offtake commitment to date for the carrier.

“American Airlines is a world business leader and we couldn’t be more pleased that they are joining the LCFC,” said Graham Noyes, Executive Director of the LCFC. “The support of American Airlines, widely recognized as the largest airline in the world, sends a clear message to policy makers that expanding existing, and creating new low carbon fuels standards, is good for business. American’ environmental commitment is clear, and we appreciate their continued pledge to decarbonizing the aviation sector.”

American Airlines joins the growing list of Low Carbon Fuel Coalition members, including Alder Fuels, Carbon Engineering, FS, Fulcrum BioEnergy, Gevo, Neste, SkyNRG, Velocys, and World Energy, who are developing sustainable aviation fuels and policy solutions to enable the transition to clean, low carbon aviation fuels.
